I apologize for the lack of posting on my part. I've been busy planning for the school year and preparing my classroom, leaving me with absolutely zero energy to post. It's really made me realize that I might need to re-evaluate how I manage my time spent on this blog. By no means do I plan to quit blogging, I guess I just need to figure out a way to juggle both. I've loved running Calico Skies for the past year, and I'm honestly surprised by how much personal and artistic growth I've experienced. I plan to keep this little blog going for as long as I can, I love having it as an outlet to share all the things I love and create, just as long as it stays fun.

Anyway, onto more important things, check out some new trinkets I've acquired...

Three little owls. I actually didn't thrift this one, it was in a box bound for charity when I rescued it.
Little golden book. Published 1986, the year I was born.
Another Little Golden book, 1962. It's illustrated by Richard Scarry, a favorite children's author of mine.
Another favorite Author/illustrator the late Maurice Sendak. 6th printing 1969.
And this little beauty I found at a small flea market for $1. Both Chris and I were smitten, he pictured using it in a song, while I plan to use it in my classroom.
My growing macrame collection. The short one with the huge tassel came from a Sunthrift, and the long one with the beads, my aunt found up in the bay area.
These weren't really thrifted either, but I had to share them because they're just beautiful. They belonged to Chris' great grandmother, and his mom was sweet enough to let us use them in our kitchen.
Have you struck any gold thrifting lately?
Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Monday!

Recent acquisition. Love this needlepoint. It's dark and inspiring. Now I just need to find a frame for it.
I was looking for some images to practice drawing in my watercolor sketchbook. And I found these lovely botany illustrations. I like the way the cilantro plant is dissected.
Totally random but I was excited to find out that my Terrarium DIY was featured in Crafts Beautiful Magazine. Craft Party! hahah
No biggie, but it made me smile!
Happy monday.

Collection: Tacky T-Shirts

Tuesday, March 20

I guess you could say that I have a little thing for tacky, men's outdoors t-shirts. I love anything with moose, deer, bears and especially wolves. I started stealing them from my boyfriend, and now I search for them specifically. They're not very pretty or "feminine", but paired with leggings, boots and a cardigan, I'm set! These are some of my favorites. The unicorn is a new edition :)
Here's how I rocked the wolf.

Thrifting

Monday, March 19

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was nice. Saw some friends, did some crafting, watched the season finale of Walking Dead, and hung out with the boy. I had some time to stop by a thrift store near me. It's pretty cool, you can find some pretty awesome stuff on a good day. It has a kind of mildewy smell, and I've encountered some pretty nasty spiders in some dusty boxes. But it has soul. It was my lucky day because I walked away with a few gems. Not with exactly what I went in there looking for, but that rarely happens.
Loved these matching "whiskey" glasses, and this little needpoint was precious, and I'll ad this dish to my countless containers for jewelry :)
Came across a bag of this vintage lace ribbon for 5 bucks! I love the mustard ric-rac. Now I'll have to find a use for them!
And I was so happy to find this needlepoint package. The yarn the pattern came with is so 70's. Definitely going to be starting tis project.
Some more sheets to add to my growing collection!

Thursday, November 3

I've been keeping my eye out for needlework lately...These are some of my vintage favorites on Etsy...

I love the old-fashioned motifs. I'm also in love with this textile artist who works a lot with embroidery, Mary's Grandaughter. These are on her etsy shop...Beautiful.

These are some needlepoint pieces I've thrifted recently. I was so thrilled to find the bird one, I love the mustard matting!
