What I Wore: Dinner Date

29

Thursday, August 2

I never grow tired of the whole routine: dressing up, doing my hair, my makeup, my nails, and going out on dinner date with Chris. I know it sounds trite, but even after almost five years together, we still have so much fun stuffing ourselves with food. It just never gets old. And I hope it never will. Here's what I wore...
Jacket: thrifted / purse: vintage coach / skirt & top: little Asian store in town / shoes: Jeffrey Campbell Litas

52 Week Challenge: #21 DIY Cut-off Shorts

22

Saturday, June 16

This week's diy is more of a makeover if anything. I just wanted to share with you a couple of distressed, high waisted cut-offs I made, using some thrifted mom jeans.
I don't have a step-by-step tutorial, but I do have a few tips on how I made mine:

>>>When you cut the legs off, leave them longer than you intend, because you can always cut them shorter if you want to. But you can't add length after they're cut. I've definitely made this mistake before.
>>>Look for Levi's 501's, personally I think they make the best cutoffs.
>>>Take into account the front pockets, if your cutting your shorts really short, decide whether or not you want them to hang out. If you do, make sure to pull them inside out while cutting, so you don't cut the pocket off like I did one time.
>>> I wanted to splash some bleach on mine. I experimented with different strengths of bleach (above), I ended up using a %100 bleach, because I liked the "galaxy" look. Either way, I think it's a good practice to test the bleach on some left over scraps to make sure you love it.
>>> Luckily, I didn't have to go far for studs. Chris had an old studded belt, so I scrapped it for parts using screwdriver and pliers to pry them off.
>>> I attached them to the back pockets and the front of the pockets, in a scattered pattern.
Then, I remade these Levi's, but I just ripped them up, with some some light distressing. I used sand paper to wear down the denim, and then I used the razor blade to shave off the fabric and expose the threads. Like this. I figured I'd start with small holes, give them a wash, and then decide if I wanted to destroy them more.
You'll end up with a bunch of cotton puffs like this.
Here's how these ones came out!

Let's Play Dress Up: Moonrise Kingdom

15

Tuesday, June 12

We finally saw Moonrise Kingdom this weekend, and not surprisingly, I was smitten. I'm a huge fan of every one of Wes Anderson's films, the storytelling, style, all-star cast, cinemetography, and musical scores. I know it's early to be thinking about Halloween costumes (Chris and I REALLY enjoy dressing up as a couple), but  I just fell head over heels for the two main characters, a pair of adolescent kids who fall in love and run away with each other into the wilderness. The girl, Suzy is sullen and introverted, and the only person who can bring her out of her shell is Sam, a boy who is a survivalist and wise beyond his years. I've locked this idea in with Chris, he has his old boy scout uniform, and we were Margot and Richie from The Royal Tenenbaums few years ago, so why not keep the tradition going and dress up as these two lovestruck 12-year olds?

Just for fun, here's some stills from the film, don't you just want to go to there?

My Summer Wishlist

8

Tuesday, June 5

Here's some things I've been lusting over. These would be just the perfect summer basics. The mullet skirt and geometric baubles are trends I'd like to take advantage of while they're hot. And those Swedish Hasbeens, I would love them forever and ever.
What's on your wishlist this summer?

Muse: Pamela Courson

Thursday, May 3

Pamela Courson. She was seriously the coolest chick, and a hot redhead. Besides having a long-term romance with Jim Morrison that ended tragically, she ran a little fashion boutique called Themis, on Melrose here in LA. I'm just so inspired by her style, from her hippy jewelry, patterned Kaftans, and of course those awesome bangs, Pam Courson seriously makes me wish I lived back in the 60's.
